Fun with numbers (Healthcare)…

July 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The problem with numbers…You can make them say pretty much whatever you want….

Example: U.S. Pop = 304,059,724 Source: U.S. Census Bureau, Population Division

Congress wants you to believe that [the Crisis] 46.6 million people are without healthcare, is this true?

Some other figures:

Lets assume that figure is true, that’s 15. 33% – a pretty unfortunate numer right?

But that means that 84.67% of the pop is covered…not bad!

Oh, one more thing, can you guess how many people are currently covered in the case of an emergency?…ah that would be 100%

Lets focus on the 46.6M

Did you know that 14,000,000 (30.04%) of the 46.6M are eligible for Medicaid but decline coverage?

Of the remaining (not eligible for Medicaid), 57.94% of them thats 27M, The avg salary of this group exceeds $50,000 per year…

Some other numbers…

70% of the 46.6M, thats 32.62M people are uninsured for less than 4 months, due to job change or awaiting coverage.

About 66% of the 46.6M are between the ages of 18 – 34 years old and deny coverage…they see themselves as relatively healthy and unnecessary.

The X factor, these figures don’t account for the supposed 11M illegal aliens that certainly drain resources and increase costs’

70% of all Americans are happy with their healthcare coverage… about 17% were ‘very dissatisfied’ with their coverage situation.

One could conclude that the remaining 13%, that’s approximately 39.5M fall into a category mentioned above…

Lets take that number 39.5M and subtract 11M (illegal aliens) that leaves 28.5M or 9% of uninsured Americans. We, the 91%, are about to pay ‘Trillions’ of dollars (maybe a little light) for 9% whom are probably eligible for some type of coverage already…remember the 18-34 crowd? That was 30M!

Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater!
