‘Shrink to Win ‘ Isn ‘t Much of a Strategy – WSJ.com

So, to paraphrase, Noonan describes the Republican Party as one that struggles to allow for the fringe to be included. The unformed and prospective members are unlikely to self identify unless we allow them to.

Are we too exclusionary?, should we re-define our pillars? It seems to me that the stalwart Republicans (which I consider myself) have not given creedance to the shifting of the landscape. Not to say that we must change our views, but we most certainly, must pick the battles that become the new foundation of the party. Allowing the ‘fringe’ room to operate within the party.

The other day Sen. Jim DeMint said he’s rather have 30 good and reliable conservative senators than 60 unreliable Republicans. Really? Good luck stopping an agenda you call socialist with 30 hardy votes. “Shrink to win”: I’ve never heard of that as a political slogan.

I wish I had the answer to this…

In my opinion, we need to define the identity and take into account for those who are struggling to define themselves. Find a way to allow them to want to make the choice to join us. Allow the young and the fringe to self identify with the party. Until then the ’shrinking’ is going to continue.

Once defined, All Republicans must take the same stalwart position and unify themselves and take to the streets with a strong message. We’ve allowed the folks whom used to self identify, (currently only 1 in 4) the latitude to say the following: “I am a Republican but…”

We need to remove the “but”…
